Houses Tell All With BuildFax Report

If a home could talk, what would it tell you? An Asheville, NC, company is acting as the tell-all for homes across the country. The firm created a database that contains building and permitting information from U.S. cities and counties.

The information is sold to appraisers, inspectors, and banks. Fees range from a single report ($39.99) to report services costing between ($100 to $300 per month). But there’s something even better for consumers.

“BuildFax is proud to be able to offer consumers free access to comprehensive permitting reports on their property and on potential purchases,” said Holly Tachovsky, president of BuildFax. Tachovsky believes these reports are essential for understanding a home’s history.

Soaring number of owners pay no property taxes in Broward, Palm Beach

When Michelais Josemond bought his two-bedroom condo in Tamarac four years ago, he paid $185,000 and had a property tax bill of about $2,500.

Today, his apartment is worth $18,000 and his tax bill is zero.

He is among the more than 18,800 homeowners in Broward County and 16,700 in Palm Beach County–living in houses, condos or coops–who are not required to pay property taxes because the value of their units is less than their $25,000 homestead exemption.

That’s a 135 percent increase between 2008 and 2010 in Broward, and a 48 percent increase in Palm Beach, county records show.

Today’s Mortgage Rates for Wednesday, June 29, 2011

For the last two days mortgage rates have increased, largely as a result of the news out of Greece.  The Greeks passed a controversial austerity budget linked to a bailout that might save the Greeks from defaulting on their debt (although it appears increasingly likely that debt will have to be restructured in some way).  Rates are rising as I write this, and those who wish to make a home purchase or refinance their current mortgage may be wise to lock their rate before rates spike further. If you want to speak to one of our licensed mortgage professionals in order to lock a low rate or find out more about our rates and products, call us today at 877-868-2503. Pending Home Sales Jump in May

Home sales saw a promising turnaround in May.

The National Association of Realtors reported that pending home sales jumped 8.2%. The index, which looks at homes in the process of closing, rose to an 88.8 reading in May from a revised 82.1 reading in April.

The turnaround was a relief after an 11.6% plunge in April. Analysts had expected a tick up by 2% for May, according to Briefing.com.

Home sales fell in April as the U.S. economy hit a soft patch due to rising gas prices, bad weather conditions and a poor jobs market. Today’s number confirmed that the disappointing drop in April was likely a one-month aberration. Full Article…

Sales of HUD Foreclosure Properties and Other Residences Up in Ohio

Sales of bank and HUD foreclosure homes and other types of residential properties went up in Ohio in March 2011 compared with the previous month. However, sales were still down when compared with a year ago, with most realtors attributing the decline partly to the extreme cold weather during the month.

The number of new houses, Cleveland foreclosure homes and other existing dwellings that were sold in the rest of the state increased by 43.8% in March 2011 compared with February, based on data presented by the Ohio Association of Realtors.
